Adam Herrman Vanished in 1999...But No One Knew Until 2008

Adam Herrman was born in 1989 and was almost immediately placed into the foster care system. He was taken in by Doug and Valerie Herrman, who eventually adopted Adam in 1993.
But that didn't mean Adam would have the loving, happy, family he always wanted - and deserved. In fact, his life would be marred with abuse and neglect.

In 1998, after the school reported possible abuse in the Herrman household, they were briefly investigated. But nothing happened, and the case would be dismissed.
The Herrmans pulled their kids out of that school and moved to Towanda, Kansas. All the children in the household were enrolled in public school, except for Adam. He was to be homeschooled.
In 1999, the other children in the home were told that Adam was sent back to Child Services due to his behavioral and mental health issues.

In 2008, one of his adoptive sisters set out to find Adam, hoping to reunite with him. What she learned was unsettling. Adam was never given back to Child Services.
Adam was missing.

The Herrmans were charged with fraud, as they had been receiving state subsidies for Adam's care through 2008. They claimed that Adam had run away from home in 1999, but they were afraid to report it and lose custody of their other children.
As adults, the other children eventually came forward to talk of abuse in the home, severe abuse, often directed at just Adam.

No one has seen Adam Herrman since 1999.
